Flute band wins bid for rehearsal hall

SHIELDHILL Flute Band has won its fight to build a itself a new home in the village.
The single storey centre on parkland off Elim Drive will double as a youth club and community centre.
Falkirk Council’s regulatory committee gave the go-ahead this week after taking a look at the site for themselves.
In an effort to deal with concerns over noise, the committee made it a condition of the planning permission that the windows and doors are kept CLOSED during band practice.
Councillors were told an original application, that had been withdrawn in April had attracted 95 letters of support from villagers claimimg the new hall would benefit the community as a whole.
However, 20 letters of objection were also handed in by neighbours worried about noise, parking and anti-social behaviour.
The detailed noise assessment carried out satisfied the committee that the way the hall will be constructed, with a sound deafening quilt built into the framework, will make sure the band’s rehearsal sessions on Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons will not have an adverse impact.
It is intended the hall will be used as a youth club on Friday nights between 7 and 9 p.m.
